STEPS Employment Solutions candidate knocks it out of the park
Much like many people who are job hunting, Sam had lost a lot of his confidence through the process.
After a few setbacks, Sam didn’t know exactly what job he was looking for, knowing only he wanted to “work outside” if possible.
Luckily for Sam, he was able to find the right role shortly after joining STEPS Employment Solutions.
STEPS were promptly able to find Sam a position at Maleny Golf Club, skillfully bringing together his passion for fitness and his ambition to work outside.
Having been with the Club for over a year, Sam is now working as a greenkeeper five days a week.
“I think I have grown a lot since I started,” Sam said.
“I have found that I can do things that I never thought I could.”
Sam also noted the large positive impact that being employed has had on his mental health.
“I now have a lot more confidence in myself and with others,” Sam said.
“This role has given my life meaning and a goal instead of sitting around and feeling like I’m not achieving anything.
“It is important to me for my mental health, to work with others, to learn, and to feel like I’m part of a team.”
Sam’s growth has certainly not gone unnoticed by the Maleny Golf Club, with Course Superintendent Mick McCombe sharing his great experience working with Sam.
“Sam has really come out of his shell since I first met him, he’s really building his confidence,” Mick said.
When asked what the Maleny Golf Club has learned through their experience with Sam, Mick was quick to share that employers shouldn’t “underestimate someone just because they have a difficult time in social situations.”
Mick also shared the great traits that the club has found in Sam, with Sam’s strong work ethic.
“Sam is meticulous and reliable; he will always find a job to do if he is at a loose end.”
