National campaign #SeeME set to change perceptions

On the 23rd of March 2021, we proudly launched our new national disability campaign, #SeeME.

Nine extraordinary people bravely shared their story of navigating the workforce on camera as part of the highly anticipated STEPS Employment Solutions’ #SeeME campaign.

The national campaign features a video series that aims to shed light on the obstacles that young Australians with disabilities, mental health issues or other barriers face when trying to secure employment and highlight the unique qualities that they can bring to a workplace.

The event featured the first screening of all nine participants’ powerful stories and drew an emotional response from the attendees in the audience.

One of the nine film participants, Jessica said the campaign has been a great opportunity to share her experience of navigating barriers to employment.

“Hopefully, we can encourage more conversations about those barriers and the strengths of diversity,” Jessica said.

“Inclusive workspaces start in the hiring process so working toward better knowledge and processes will surely highlight our abilities.”

Kerry Staines, the Chief Executive Officer of STEPS Group Australia, spoke at the event and emphasised the importance of campaigns such as #SeeME.

“This campaign really embodies our core message; that young adults with disabilities, mental health issues, or any other barriers have so much to offer in the workspace,” Ms. Staines said.

“Our nine participants are such a small part of such a large group of amazing, qualified, and deserving people.

“I really hope that this campaign helps more employers see that good employees don’t just come in one form.”
